The General Medicine Service is led by three consultant physicians. The team also includes other doctors and nurses, a dietitian, a physiotherapist, an occupational therapist and a psychotherapist. The service sees patients with chronic and complex conditions. The team is trained in many areas of complementary medicine. These are used alongside orthodox treatment, allowing them to offer a fully integrated General Medicine service. The General Medicine Service offers a full range of diagnostic tests as well as a variety of treatments and advice on orthodox treatment.

Conditions commonly seen include:
  1. Recurrent infections, such as colds, sore throats, cystitis, thrush, chest infections and bacterial infections
  2. Some persistent symptoms where tests have not revealed a serious underlying disorder Asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  3. Digestive disorders, for example acid reflux, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease
  4. Endocrine (glandular) disorders such as under-active thyroid
  5. Type II diabetes
  6. Some types of heart disease, high blood pressure and palpitations (requiring no orthodox treatment)
  7. Chronic headache such as migraine or tension-type headache Side effects of prescribed medications

Dialysis is a procedure to help the patients whose kidneys are not working properly, in which excess water and waste products are removed from the body. In hemodialysis, blood is drawn out through a tube in the patient’s arm into a special machine which filters the blood and pumps it back into the body. This procedure can last several hours, during which a patient’s entire blood courses through the machine numerous times.

  1. Chronic Hemodialysis
  2. Acute Hemodialysis
  3. AV fistula management
  4. Peritoneal Dialysis

  3. 4 Cleaners
  4. 2 Dialysis machines and 2 additional standby

Computed Tomography (CT 128 Slices)

The CT scanner produces three-dimensional images of the body far superior to conventional X-rays. It can be used to diagnose a wide variety of conditions and is instrumental in the early detection of certain forms of cancer and heart disease.

X-Ray, C-Arm

A mobile C-arm is a medical imaging device that is based on X-ray technology and can be used flexibly in various ORs within a clinic. The name is derived from the C-shaped arm used to connect the X-ray source and X-ray detector to one another. Since the introduction of the first C-arm in 1955 the technology has advanced rapidly. Today, mobile imaging systems are an essential part of everyday hospital life: Specialists in fields such as surgery, orthopedics, traumatology, vascular surgery and cardiology use C-arms for intraoperative imaging. The devices provide high-resolution X-ray images in real time, thus allowing the physician to monitor progress at any point during the operation and immediately make any corrections that may be required. Consequently, the treatment results are better and patients recover more quickly. Hospitals benefit from cost savings through fewer follow-up operations and from minimized installation efforts.

Ultrasound

An ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to obtain images of internal organs and structures within the body. It was first developed to create images of fetuses inside their mother’s abdomen, but is now used for many other purposes including imaging of the heart, kidney and liver. The procedure is painless and does not involve any radiation.

Endoscopy

An upper endoscopy is used to diagnose and, sometimes, treat conditions that affect the upper part of your digestive system, including the esophagus, stomach and beginning of the small intestine (duodenum). Your doctor may recommend an endoscopy procedure to: Investigate symptoms.

Bone Density Scan

This medical imaging technique is used to diagnose osteoporosis or the softening of bones. Bone density scans are particularly important for post-menopausal women.
